Hey Insiders! Welcome to the Well.
When I was a little girl I saw a special on television in which people were eating bugs. They were eating all kinds – spiders, grasshoppers, ants, and so on. I remembered this as I was poking around the internet tonight, and I found some interesting nutrition labels for a couple different insects that I wanted to share on my blog.
Apparently, there are a lot of online resources for anyone looking to get in on eating insects. They can be part of a balanced diet, but you will want to make sure of a couple things before you dig in:
-It’s best to cook your bugs before eating them. While in some cultures it is acceptable to consume bugs raw, it is not advisable.
-Be aware of where your bugs are coming from. You won’t want insects that have been in unclean spaces or that have been exposed to pesticides.
–Make sure your bugs are safe. If you aren’t sure, see if a wild animal is comfortable eating that particular bug. Brightly colored insects are more likely to be toxic.
Have you ever eaten insects? How did you prepare them, and what did you think? Would you eat bugs? I’d love to hear about it in the comments. Thanks for stopping by the Well!
